UżytkownikHello! I see many others who have been helped here so I thought I would see if anyone could give me ideas on how to find out more about my Upper Silesean ancestors. Below is the information I have for my great grandfather, but have been unable to find anything on his parents, wife, or siblings. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I’d be happy to donate to your Genealogical Society, but did not see anywhere to do that, so let me know that is an option, as well.
Thank you in advance for any assistance!

UżytkownikDear RJ Fitch,
your grand grandfather FRANZ LISSOK was born on January 5th, 1874 in Groß Chelm, Kreis Pleß, Oberschlesien (Upper Silesia). His parents were: Franz Lissok (Einlieger – inlier in Chelm) und Monika DLUBIS. Godparents: Peter Opittek and Maryna Kula.
You can find his baptism record in the catholic parish of Groß Chelm, year 1874, number 5 (see below the attached document) – online here on silius radicum.
All the best in your further research!
Adam Peter

I cannot thank you enough; this is fantastic! I want you to know I shared this with my family. They have wondered about this for a very long time, they are thrilled to know what you found, and they are very grateful. Many, many thanks.

UżytkownikHello again!
I have looked at part the church register of Groß Chelm to continue my family search, and I am slowly finding names that might be relatives. I’m looking at each page (photo) carefully and this is very slow work. Is this the best way to look for names, or are any of these documents converted to text yet for searching by names?
Thank you!

UżytkownikHello RJ,
sadly not. Nothing from that area has been indexed. I maintain a map with all known electronic indexes here:

UżytkownikHello Michael,
I appreciate your hard work in maintaining the map you shared! I’ll keep an eye on it to see if the Groß Chelm documents might be indexed in the future (I understand it may be a very long time). In the meantime, I will simply keep reading through those documents to see what I can find. It is tedious, but at the same time an exciting hunt, now that I have a good idea I’m in the right place to look based on the previous help I received here.
Thanks again,
RJ
