    Dear all,

I am looking for the birth/baptism of a certain individual who was born in Katowice between 1921 and 1925. I have received the following reply from the Registry office at the municipality of Katowice:

In the description of the Roman Catholic parish of Katowice on the site siliusradocum I read the following:
„Parish of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Katowice was established in 1873 r., It was separated from the parish of St.. Stephen Bogucice. Own registry books are run from 1860 r.:
    – book of baptisms 1860-1866, 1869-1931”

    and:

„Our resources are duplicates of these books from the period:
    – duplicate records of baptisms 1860-1874”.

In order to find the baptism of the person, so I can find his birth certificate, I would need to consult the baptisms 1869-1931. I understand they are not digitised, but where are the originals, and can they be consulted?

My final question on this topic is if somebody is willing to consult the books for me, so I don’t have tor travel from Netherlands to Poland for just one document.

Thank you very much and have a nice day!

    Hello John,

mind that 1921-1925 births are still under data protection. It should actually not be a problem for them to find the birth record since they should have indexes available for those records. Maybe it’s just their way of telling you that you need to prove this way that you are directly related.
Either way, the original churchbooks should be at the Diocesan Archives. Just shoot them an email (in Polish), they do research for people.

    Best regards,

    Dear Michael,

    Thanks for your useful reply.
I have sent Urząd Stanu Cywilnego w Katowicach the official request using the official form (in Polish, etc.) and paid the fee, and have included a copy of the death certificate. There was no problem in data protection (even if I sent it after 25 May). I did receive a formal reply by letter as stated above. Of course I can only guess about their motives.

I will contact the archives of the diocese, thanks for sorting that out.

    Kind regards,

    John

John. I do not want to discourage you but if you are looking for birth register from year 1921 the diocese will not help you. They have a policy to help in research dated 1874 or later. They will divert you back to registry office in Katowice. They are also extremely slow and difficult in my opinion.

    Hi John,

I used a guy who was born in Swietochlowice but is a guide and has been living in Krakow now but he had researched for me a couple of years ago around the Czuchow area; different archives. His name is Christopher Skutela, PhD, +48504878293, email krisskutela@wp.pl. It is probably a good time to ask as it will be quiet for him in Krakow.

    regards
    Bob
