Greetings from Australia!
I have conducted extensive research online into my Polish ancestors – with some success! – but now I am in need of guidance or help please to progress further, if someone could help me please? I am confused about Polish privacy laws and who may access records as well as whether records exist or were destroyed during WW2.
Do marriage records from Friedenshutte, September 1942, exist? If I request a copy of the marriage record from the appropriate registry office, will I need to pay before they look for it or will they tell me the marriage record is available before I pay for a copy? Will I be able to receive a copy if I am not a direct descendent (he is my great-uncle)? I am unsure of the process. I know the date of the marriage and/or the number that year, the surname of the groom and the name of his parents – I am trying to uncover the groom’s christian name.
However, I don’t actually need a copy of the certificate, as my quest is to uncover his name – all my family remembers is his nickname. I presume I need to order a copy of the certificate to be told his name?
Likewise, are death certificates from 1926/27 in Nowa Wies available? I am trying to confirm the date of death of my great-grandfather. My grandfather always said he died before he was born in 1926, yet a search of the Nowa Wies death records on this website reveals a man with the same name is recorded to have died in 1927. Perhaps it is a different man, or perhaps history is not as my family knows it?! I hope a death certificate may reveal his age and other information to confirm identity and date of death.
Thank you for any guidance and help that you may be able to provide with my quest to solve pieces of my family’s puzzle.
Lee
