Although most of the ancestors of my branch of the Kolassa family seem to originate from the vicinity of Zülz (Biala), my grandmother’s siblings were all born in Laurahütte (Siemianowice Sl.) and her parents were married there. The brief span of records that have been scanned for Laurahütte (Siemianowice Sl.) include the period of time in which my great grandmother, Pauline Piontek, would likely have been born. I looked through those records and found the birth of Johanna Pauline Piątek (see attached image). The name „Piątek” is not clearly visible so I have included a second image of the record of a sibling that clearly shows the „Piątek” spelling. Most of the entries do not seem to use Polish alphabet characters in the spelling so the inclusion of the „ą” character seems a bit unusual. In all the other documents that I have seen that relate to Johanna Pauline her last name is spelled „Piontek”. So, my question is regarding the likelihood that the name „Piontek” is just a German phonetic spelling of „Piątek” or are these truly just different last name.
