    Hi,

I think it would make sense to look for his wife’s death first, then – maybe that one will give you an indication of whether or not he was still alive at that point.

    Kind regards,
    Michael

    Hi Adam,

Unfortunately, in Silesia, when there is no information about the fate of the churchbooks, it usually means that the records were lost in WWII or the immediate aftermath.
It is a bit puzzling why there wouldn’t be more churchbook duplicates available, but unfortunately, duplicates from the Amtsgericht of Gleiwitz do not seem to have survived.

    Kind regards,
    Michael

    Hi Paul,

That’s not a lot to work with. I can tell by the surname that he was Jewish.

On Ancestry, there is a guy called Peter Lax who has created a large collection of Silesian Jews.
It also includes Fedor Badrian, who was married to Lene/Helene Nebel.
    https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/person/tree/86879386/person/122055426421/facts?_phsrc=cny1&_phstart=successSource

According to the information provided, Fedor was born on 10 Aug 1835 in Pleß (now Pszczyna) and died 7 Jun 1877 at a monastery hospital in Neustadt O/S (Prudnik).

You would have to request the death record from the state archive in Opole or ask Peter for it. I also cannot find the source for his birth. All records I can find for Pleß start the decade after.

    Kind regards,
    Michael

    Hi,
have you looked through the death indexes 1909-1920 of all parts of Królewska Huta? The local hospital was in Nowy Hajduk, so she might have died in the area covered by Hajduki Wielkie USC.

    Kind regards,

    Hi,

There is no specific plan for these records to go online. You can order the marriage record from the state archive in Cieszyn for half a dollar, which you can easily pay using Wise or Revolut.

    Hi,

Leschczin belonged to the Catholic parish of Belk before 1817, had own churchbooks from 1817, and had its own register office from October 1874.
The churchbooks [are stored](https://archiwum.archidiecezjakatowicka.pl/pl/metrics/parafia/38) at Archiwum Archidiecezjalne w Katowicach (which has no digitalisation plans).
The civil records are stored at Archiwum Państwowe w Racibórzu, file unit 18/346/0.
The first 20 files from that file unit have been digitalised, but there is no known timeline for their publication on szukajwarchiwach.

    Kind regards,
    Michael

    Hi,

The Diocesan Archive in Katowice has no plans of publishing its records online.
Why not use Silius Radicum’s civil registers from Chorzów instead?

    Urzędy stanu cywilnego

At least the marriages and deaths are fully available for that period. Births only until 1910/1917, depending on the register office. With the parish located towards the southwestern part of the city, I guess the register offices Königshütte I and Ober Heiduk / Bismarckhütte would be the ones to search. There are paper indexes available to help you speed up the search, as well as some digital indexes on Geneteka.

    Kind regards,
    Michael

    Hi Brian,

Brzezie only had churchbooks from 1877 onwards. Before that, it belonged to Pogrzebin parish.
Brzezie and Pogrzebin are in Katowice diocese. The diocese has NO plans whatsoever to put anything online. Therefore, all you can do is request searches (not cheap) through the diocesan archive. For the time after October 1874, you can rely on the civil records, which are located at Racibórz state archive (searches there are cheaper) and for which the marriages have been indexed by Silius Radicum on Geneteka.

    Kind regards,
    Michael

    Hallo,

    https://www.reddit.com/r/AlteNachrichten/wiki/schlesien#wiki_heimatbl.E4tter_der_nachkriegszeit

    Hi,

There is no death index for Zalenze for this period and I wasn’t able to find one for Bogutschütz; I manually searched both USCs in 1911.

The only hit for the surname SCHUBERT is USC Zawodzie (in the USC district of Bogutschütz) no. 528/1911: Agnes ZMARSLY née SCHUBERT, miner cripple’s widow, 83 years old, living in Bogutschütz, born in Gleiwitz, daughter of Katharina SCHUBERT (last living in Bogutschütz, married to the master shoemaker PUDALLIK), died 12 December 1911.

There are plenty of other USCs in the area, unfortunately, that you should check – Kattowitz (Stadt), Kattowitz (Schloss), Hohenlohehütte, Domb, Siemianowitz, Laurahütte, Georgshütte, Schoppinitz, Rosdzin. Kattowitz (Stadt) and Siemianowitz had hospitals.

    Kind regards,
    Michael

Edit: For some of the USCs, indexes/records are on szukajwarchiwach, for others, there are indexes here: https://metryki.genealodzy.pl/woj-SL
