    Hi George,
Janocina means exactly „Janota’s”, which should be interpreted as Janota’s wife or (in rarer cases) Janota’s daughter.
I didn’t look closely at the surnames Gloss vs. Bulla/Buła/Janota, but it was common in Urbanowice to have two or even more surnames – aliases. In many cases, this was due to the fact that the farm/estate/or land (often together with her parents) was inherited by a daughter, (e.g. Anna Nowak), who after marriage received a new surname, (e.g. Kowalski) In such case, her children could be registered with her husband’s surname or her maiden name – the reporting person could say that “the child was born on the Nowak’S farm” or was born to Kowalski. Two surnames were often drawn for this reason. Besides, these double surnames were used in Urbanowice even recently.
Some dual forms began 250 years ago and are known to this days.
Ps.1 A small correction to Andrzej – Wygorzele isn’t currently part of Jaroszowice. Both are separated district of Tychy.
PS.2 The mentioned Clemens Jadamus/Adamus is my direct ancestor.
PS.3 The inhabitants of Wygorzele are included in the Carolingian Cadastre – mostly under „Jaroszowice” and partly under „Urbanowice”.

    Regards,
    Ola

Hi Ola (I love your name),

Thank you for this. It’s interesting how polish/Silesian works.
I did notice that Wygorzelle wasn’t on the register I just assumed it wasn’t significant enough, i will look into it.
Also, in regards to what Andrzej said, it looks like he was right that Janotas came from Berun, as Dr Schäffer from the archdiocese archive in Katowice forwarded onto me an extract of an ironworks/smelter/smithing document from Paprocany (originally right next to Urbanowice) in 1737, which mentions a Jendres (archaic variant of Andrzej) Janota, a smith from Berun. Possibly an ancestor.

I found it funny how over time towns move away from eachother as they expand. Meyer’s gazetteer is helpful for getting an understanding what the area was like closer to that period.

    Best regards,
    George
